Art Activity 1
Activity Title: Nature Collage Art
Age Group: Pre-School (3-5 years)
Intent:
Children will explore natural materials and use them to create artwork, expressing their creativity and curiosity through open-ended exploration
Materials Needed:
- Leaves
- Pinecones
- Flowers
- Sticks
- Feathers
- Grass
- Rocks
- Large paper
- Glue
- Paper
How to do it:
Children will go outside and wonder around looking for natural material that they like or think look cool to make a picture using such as leaves, pinecones, flowers, sticks, feathers, grass, and rocks and other stuff they find. They can touch, sort, arrange, and glue the materials onto paper to create their own artwork how ever they like. There is no right or wrong way to do it each one will be different in their own way. encouraging children to use their imagination, making choices on where to put things and what to use, and express their creativity through open-ended exploration.
Art Activity 2
Activity Title: Finger Painting Exploration
Age Group: Toddlers (18 months- 2.5 years)
Intent:
to encourage toddlers to explore colours, textures, and being creative through hands- on while strengthening fine motor skills and self- expression.
Materials Needed:
- Washable, Non toxic paint
- Painting trays/ paper plates
- Water bowl
- Paper
- Smocks or old shirts
- Plastic/paper tablecloth
How to do it:
Cover the table with a tablecloth or go outside. Get the children to wear old shirts they won’t mind getting paint on or put on a smocks. Put paint on the painting trays or paper plates and let the children dip their fingers in the paint and put it on the paper without telling them what to draw and letting them explore mixing colours. Provide a water bowl for them to use to clean their fingers and switch colours.
Art Activity 3
Activity Title: Loose Part Art
Age Group: School Age (6-12 years)
Intent:
Children will explore different types of loose parts to design and create their own art work how even they image. The open-ended activity will help with imagination, problem solving, and fine motor skills. It also lets children be self expression while allowing children to create whatever they would like.
Materials Needed:
- Cardboard
- wood slices
- loose parts (button, beads, shells, sticks, gems, bottles caps, fabric scraps, yarn, feathers, etc.)
- Nature items
- Glue
- Paper and pen
How to do it:
Place out a bunch of loose parts on a table with a sign saying what can you make by using these loose parts and invite the children to explore materials that are interest in. Encourage them to arrange the materials into a design. Having the children move, rearrange and experience with different ideas before deciding if they want to glue it down. Have paper and pen out on the table for the children to write down and describe their art work if they would like to.
Art Activity 4
Activity Title: Sponge Stamping
Age Group: Pre-School (3-5 years)
Intent:
Children will explore different colours, textures, and patterns. This art activity encourages creativity, sensory and exploration. This activity also helps with fine motor skills and self expression will letting children create different ways of making art.
Materials Needed:
- Washable non-toxic paint
- Sponges with different shapes and sizes
- White paper
- Smock or old shirt
- Paint trays or paper plates
- Paper towels
- Table cloth
- Paper and pen
How to do it:
Set up a table with a table clothes and have paper, paint and stamps with different shapes and sizes on the table. Having a sign saying How many different ways can you use the sponges to paint. I would encourage them to stamp, press, layer and experiment with different ways. Allowing children to mix colours, creates pattern, and different textures. I would also ask questions let what gave you this ideas about the children art work and have paper and pen to write it down to document their work.
